The Whispering Dark by Kelly Andrew

Some interesting concepts and ideas here, but poorly executed overall. The writing is overly repetitive and flowery and the leads are both flat characters. Worst of all, it's just boring. The book spends so much time on the (uninteresting, predictable) romance between the leads that the side characters are never developed. The actual plot barely exists. The actual school barely exists, in a book whose premise is "girl goes to magic school."
The third part of the book reminded me a lot of Venom: Let there Be Carnage, but that movie did the whole "two evil beings from another planet/realm have a fight that impacts people on Earth and do so by possessing people" thing a lot better (even though it's not even a good movie lol).
