The first story focuses on Moomin, who reads about a new continent and decides to colonize it with his family.

The second story is about Moomin, who falls in love with a girl named Tuttla and joins the boy scouts to impress her.

In the third story, Moomin's family inherits a farm from a distant relative.

And in the fourth and final story, Moominpapa finds a map to a treasure and accidentally puts the entire Moominvalley into a gold rush.

Personally, I thought all of the stories were quite adorable and lovely. The second one was a little weird because Moomin literally tried to manipulate Tuttla into dating him in the weirdest, shadiest ways possible, but it was still pretty light-hearted and shouldn't be taken too seriously.

I saw some of Ito's work before reading this and actually thought that it seemed quite nice. This one, however, was definitely a bad start for someone who is trying to get into his work. From the stories to the art, everything felt somewhat dull and not as mesmerizing as the little snippets I had seen around the internet. The ideas for the stories were quite interesting but it didn't actually tap into the horror aspect much, or at least not as much as I had anticipated. Hopefully, the next one gives me some of that shine I've been expecting.

Is this a ghost story? No.
Is the governess a lunatic and a pedophile and Miss Jessel and Mister Quint were merely her hallucinations? Yes.
Did I almost fall asleep during the first 17 pages? Yes.
Was the author most certainly paid per word and you could easily cut out 90% of the book? Definitely.
Were those the longest 87 pages of my life? Probably.

P.S.: I still don't completely understand what's going on in this book.
