The House of My Mother by Shari Franke

challenging dark emotional informative inspiring reflective sad slow-paced
As a rule, I don’t rate memoirs, so no star rating for this one. This story was so well done! I listened to the audiobook and loved the approach that Shari took to only tell her side of the story in order to avoid perpetuating the lack of privacy her mother gave her younger siblings.

I found this story to be very enlightening and well written. While the story itself is sad, I never felt like she was too descriptive or depressing. She kept the lessons needed as the forefront of the story instead of the horrific details of the trauma.

β€œYou want me lost, but I am found in the breaths I take, in the spaces between heartbeats. I am found because I refuse to be in black and white, or any shade of gray. I am color. I am fire. I am the sun, and I will burn away the shadows until only light remains. And then you will have no choice but to see me.”

Somewhere Beyond the Sea by TJ Klune was nothing short of amazing! I laughed and smiled so much and felt emotional at other points. It’s amazing what we can learn and remember from a book.
