I learned a lot from this book, but there were a few things that didn’t quite work for me. At times, it felt like instead of summarizing or interpreting the research for the reader, the author just included full historical documents, newspaper articles, and legal briefs. Some of these, especially the ones in old English, were tough to follow. There was one local Maryland legend where the author literally quoted the entire Wikipedia page without adding much else, which left me wanting more. There were also a few comments that came across as a bit classist, which I found a little off-putting. Overall, it had good information, but I think it could’ve been presented more thoughtfully.
