The Velvet Promise by Jude Deveraux
fast-paced
1.5
With as terrible as the hero is in this book, I expected some epic groveling and was completely let down. Even with epic groveling, I don’t think this hero could have been redeemed, though. Also, the ending is very abrupt. I do not buy that this couple will live happily ever after.
Knockout by Sarah MacLean
5.0
Knockout was such a fun, heart-felt, and heart-breaking (at times) book. I love Imogen with her quirkiness, cleverness, and obsession with explosions. And when her heart breaks, my heart breaks. I also love Thomas Peck with the ridiculous size of his thighs and his tendency to growl. Not to mention his belief in justice and protecting those who need it most. You could feel the love between these two characters and the fascination they held for each other.
I also enjoyed this story with its band of women bringing down justice on those that the system and police force would rather serve and turn a blind eye to—the rich and powerful. The danger they get themselves into builds tension, and their personalities bring in a sense of adventure and fun. I wish I could read this book for the first time again.

Snowed in with Grumpy by Olivia Noble
fast-paced
- Strong character development? No
- Loveable characters? No
- Diverse cast of characters? No
1.5
I was looking for something light and quick to read, and this fit the bill in that way. However, I just didn’t enjoy it. All the cutesy Christmas phrases bugged me more than charmed me. And the hero was not grumpy, which I felt let down by. I felt like the title promised me a grumpy man, then the book failed to deliver on that promise. Sure he yells at her one time while breaking furniture, but that’s more of a violent red flag than grumpiness. Everything felt superficial and I just didn’t experience any sort of emotion while reading this. The most I felt was annoyed at the homosexual stereotypes.
