Knit Two Together by Elizabeth Lenhard
4.0
Teen knitting part two. I liked the first book better, but this one was still fun to listen to on audio. The characters seemed younger this time, or I am aging more rapidly. This felt like more of a teen book than the first did. I guess that was because it was less about knitting and coming of age and more about boy/girl relationships.
The Misfits by James Howe

Great book about bullying and one group of friends trying to fight the status quo.
The Tempest by William Shakespeare

I feel bad for Caliban. I think the character Prospero wasn't fleshed out as much as my memory led me to believe. Enjoyable though. Much better acted out than reading silently alone.
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

I had forgotten much of what went on in this book and had a very odd impression of it. I think that I missed a lot in my high school reading of the book. I am glad I gave it a second chance.
Emma-Jean Lazarus Fell Out of a Tree by Lauren Tarshis

Hilarious look at a girl who doesn't quite fit in at her school. She is unique, funny, and very appealing.
Salka Valka by Halldór Laxness
4.0
Salka Valka shows a vivid picture of an Icelandic fishing village. The main character is a feisty individual named Salka that lives through the economic changes in the village. In the beginning, everything feeds through the local store and the entire economic system is controlled by one man. This is later challenged due in part to Salka.
The story pulled me along and while I didn't always agree with Salka's thinking, I always admired her.

In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto by Michael Pollan

Eat food, not too much, mostly plants. He hammers these three points home through a very engaging book. It is actually changing the way I shop to a certain degree. I am trying to shop more locally and I am watching the ingredients more closely.
The Mysterious Edge of the Heroic World by E.L. Konigsburg
4.0
I have always enjoyed Konigsburg's books. This one was no exception. The art and history intrigued me and made me want to find out more. I had not heard of the Munich Degenerate exhibit.
This book was a Junior Library Guild selection so was sent to our elementary library, but as I read it I wondered how many under 12 students would actually enjoy it though. It seems to be written for young adults or actually adults.
