such a great re-telling. didn’t cry as much as i thought i would, but i guess it’s because i already knew how it would end.

i was honestly surprised at how much i enjoyed this book. it’s a hard book to explain to people since ashton is walking us through the history of creation, and the examples he gives range so widely. overall, it was an extremely interesting read and i’m interested to see the discussion my students come up with about it in class!

i’m not usually a “self help book” kind of person, but i really appreciate show current this was in regard to the pandemic and a lot of the unrest in our country right now. i feel like i’m going to be able to adapt a lot from this book into my own life.

i picked this up on a whim on a target trip because i started listening to dana schwartz’s podcast noble bloods. i ended up just completely devouring this book because of how well written this story is. schwartz seamlessly writes in omniscient flowing between the minds of hazel and jack so well i didn’t even notice the change. the setting of Edinburgh was so rich, i was so impressed by the way she describes the city as well as the landscapes. 10/10 would recommend this wonderful stand alone!

i loved this book sm that i literally stopped reading about 100 pages to the end for like a month because i didn’t want it to be over. so many austen, brontë, and byron jokes it literally was my dream.

even more than the literary humor i loved the witty banter between the characters/the posh lady pirates/queen victoria being absolutely unhinged. the perfect lighthearted stand-alone, but i’m so excited that holten is expanding on this world
