I really liked this book. The characters were seriously flawed, but who among us isn't? I thought the story was well written and easy to read and I flew through this book.

This book felt like an 80s vampire movie and I am here for it. There were too many characters, however, and that was a bit frustrating towed the beginning of the book. Overall, I enjoyed this book, though.

I went into this with low expectations. I didn't expect to like it, much less love it.

I loved this book. It was an eerie and atmospheric story that I found to be immersive. I did find the treatment of women unsettling, as it reminded me of the historical misogyny women have endured. The book doesn't shy away from this harsh reality, which, while a little triggering in light of recent US election results, adds depth to the story and makes Abitha's resilience all the more inspiring. The characters were well written and I enjoyed the magical realism woven throughout. It is one of my favorite genres. I also found the ending to be quite satisfying and didn't leave me hanging. It's a dark and witchy read for anyone who enjoys folklore with bite.

T. Kingfisher is consistent in her works. I enjoyed this book quite a bit. It was a quick read with a lot going on. The depiction of Cordelia's manipulation, emotional turmoil, and physical abuse was incredibly vivid, making it easy to immerse yourself in the narrative. The story moved at a fast pace, and seeing Cordelia muster the courage to break free was quite satisfying. I would have liked seeing her get more payback with her horrible mother, but time was of the essence. Haha

The ending did feel quite rushed, with the final chapter wrapping up both the climactic fight and the story itself in one go. I would have preferred a more developed conclusion, but I’m not mad about it. 😊

The idea was there, but the execution was rough. I rolled my eyes a lot with this one. I'm bummed about it, though, because it had so much potential. Le sigh.

This had potential, but I just couldn't get into it like I wanted to. The characters weren't believable. The level of self reflection and growth that they had at 18/19 years old just didn't make sense or seem real. There were also a lot of cyclical emotions and situations that just got to be annoying after a while.  Similar comments were made in other reviews, and I agree.
