I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy
5.0
My god this book was incredible. Don’t even know where to begin besides how great of a writer Jennette is. Although the story itself has so much darkness within it, she never makes you feel taken down with her. Parts are funny and other parts will make you gasp. Truly wish her all the peace and happiness but my god what a read. Probably the best thing I have read all year.
Maus: A Survivor's Tale. My Father Bleeds History by Art Spiegelman

4 1/2 stars! Currently reading the complete Maus but finished the first part the other day and thought I would review it separately. I have been wanting to read this book for months and it lived up to every expectation. I’m not an avid graphic novel reader but this reminded me a lot of persepolis (which is one of my favorite books of all time). We often get lost in the numbers when thinking about the holocaust but this was an extremely personal look at one of humanities most horrific tragedies. An important story to be told and I hope band get lifted on this book.

5 stars for the second part of the book. His fathers story in Auschwitz is horrifying to say the least. This is just one man’s story but my god does so much happen. It’s heartbreaking, terrifying, and overall just angering that this even happened. The trauma of it all, it’s just too much for one person to handle and the fact that this experience was shared by millions of other people is disgusting. This book should be required reading.
Sex and Rage by Eve Babitz

Woooo out of my long reading slump!! The first half (LA) I thought was a lot stronger and more interesting to read than the second (NYC) half. Honestly all I have to say is Eve Babitz is so cool and obviously an amazing writer.
People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry

yeah idk about this one?? Easily the cheesiest of her books and I found the reason Poppy and Alex stopped talking to be BEYOND stupid. I liked it more near the beginning and then I found myself constantly rolling my eyes near the end. Still love miss Emily Henry tho

Why Fish Don't Exist: A Story of Loss, Love, and the Hidden Order of Life by Lulu Miller
4.0
Somewhere between 4 and 4 1/2 stars! I really enjoyed this. I didn’t know much going in but the title intrigued me. Lulu Miller has such a gift for story telling. Once the story started to piece together, it was impossible to put down. The last few chapters, although receptive, really hit home.
We’ve all “given up the fish” and I think that’s one of the most beautiful parts about humanity.

So lovely! I had a little trouble getting into the story, but once the classic love story falls into place, it’s a beautiful tale.
Also man does this guy love to write about tits. Anytime he could mention them, he would jump on the opportunity.

WOW!!!!! I bought this book last summer without knowing anything about it (I just loved the font choice) and I’ve never been so surprised by a book. There were endless twists and turns up until the very last page. Every character, no matter how small, played a role in the overall plot.
The whole time I was reading this I pictured each section as an episode of a limited series on Prime and now I need that to happen IMMEDIATELY!
