The Episode: A True Story of Loss, Madness and Healing

Mary Ann Kenny

DID NOT FINISH: 23%

Wasn't hooking me onto anything — sounds like the author went through a lot, but not every trauma needs to be a book, and this writing just wasn't engaging.

A Court of Mist and Fury

Sarah J. Maas

No story for me to hook onto, more substance in a paragraph of other authors' writing than 1.25 books from
this series. I tried!

Seeing as it's a children's book, it did a good scanning job of some of the stories from Arthur's round table — it's pretty shallow and sweeping for the mostpart, but it introduces characters I'd be interested in learning more about in more depth elsewhere (and the illustrations are smokey and haunting and excellent).

Some faint whiff of a story and world there, but much better, more complex and rewarding writing exists. Only hope the rest of the story improves.

One thing I enjoyed was the Island transforming over time, from something pastoral to different monstrous spaces — like a fixed view timelapse. Otherwise, I was remarkably bored despite reading something meant to be terribly dark.
