From the beginning of this story, I was hooked. This book was a fun read with glimpses into deep conversations and on-page development in specific parts of characterisations.
Kat and Mick are enjoyable characters whose POVs are a joy to read. I was rooting for their relationship from the very beginning as the chemistry was undeniable and not forced. I am also a big fan of the friendship that developed between them.
The side characters were done just as well as the MCs and were fully fleshed out and intriguing outside of how they moved the romantic plot along.
Despite the fact that the characters took so long to take the chance on a romantic relationship and I was hoping for anything to happen between them cause I wanted them together so bad, the procession towards a romantic relationship didn't feel drawn out or stalled in order to keep the book going.
As always I hate reading third-act breakups and will be a little upset when one happens in a romance book, this one didn't just feel like a break up just to draw out the story. The reason for breaking up was a little stupid but it was believable and I think the things that happened between the breakup and the resolution were just as enjoyable as the rest of the story.
This book snuck up on me as one minute I was starting the book and the next I was halfway through and couldn't put it down. I definitely think this book is a little slow to start and might take a few chapters to get into but it is a great read. I loved the fact that it seemed to have a blend of different mythologies and from reading even the shortest of descriptions you could Hassan did the necessary research or was very knowledgeable on the mythologies she was using.
The friendship between Aziza and Leo was definitely one of the main selling points of this book in my opinion. It felt very real and even though there was a time skip between the initial pact and them actually being good friends, it still felt very believable.
Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated
3.5
Good introduction to the series. I liked the art style, and the main character was likeable enough to willingly follow throughout the series. I hope we get to see more of the friendship between Hide and Ken as the manga continues.
