was prepared to find the meet-the-author part really cringe.  i did!  a bit!  but there was so much that was incredibly touching and tense, and it continues to amaze me how openly stephen king can look back on his own flaws and the mistakes he's made and that near-death experience AND work them into his own writing.  i'll be in tears when i finish this series.

literally SO much better on the second read-through, and it was a 5/5 the first time.  the slow tragedy of absolute power and inherited destiny and losing friends to the ranks of your devoted.

not to hussiepost in the year of our lord 2024, but his sense of humour is unreal.  like i'm constantly in awe of his wordplay and pacing and his capacity for silliness.  i love it.

a brisk little read to break up my tbr!!  i didn't love this as much as i did what moves the dead, but it was still a good read and a worthy successor.  i really do hope there's more alex easton to come!!

so......... yeah i get it.  held me tight for the first 75% or so, but the closing scenes sort of lost me a little.  i enjoyed hannibal coming apart at the seams, but that was resolved SO easily???  like what the hell was the point of building that up so much for clarice to just wellactually him out of it.  anyway!  gothic-y and indulgent.
