My childhood copy of this book is literally bound together with scotch tape. I adore this book. While it’s perhaps not the most clean or succinct script of the bunch, I find that its pros far outweigh its cons. I read this book when I was around the same age as Harry in OOTP, and this was the perfect angsty teenage read that helped me grapple with the confusion, loss, and anger I experienced while confronting childhood hurts and coming to terms with my impending adulthood.

This is such a quaint, beautiful piece of storytelling. I can imagine reading this book to my future children as I tuck them into bed. I did, however, find that it took me a bit to get into the story. As an adult reading the book for the first time, I found the decisions and actions of the characters to be nonsensical. But by the latter half and especially the final chapters of the book, I realized what this story is (from my perspective): a telling of what it’s like to transition from adolescence to adulthood (with a bit of magic thrown in).

Magical and breathtaking, this book is a wonderful escape read. It took me awhile to get into the story (lots of shifting perspectives and places/dates), but once I was pulled in it was hard to put down!

My only regret is that this book is shorter than its predecessor. Otherwise, Harry’s story continues to enthrall and bewilder me. To me, this book marks the true transition for Harry between childhood and adulthood. He matures so much in this story and I absolutely adore his budding relationship with Dumbledore.

I just finished all 7 Jim Dale audiobooks. I highly recommend listening to the book series if you haven’t already - it makes for a different, new experience compared to reading the physical books. Jim Dale also does an excellent job bringing all of the characters to life.

This series is every bit as magical and enthralling as it was when I read it for the first time 15 years ago. The last installment, especially, is such a beautiful conclusion to the story where all of the characters end up with well-rounded, satisfying arcs.

This series taught me so much about about love, life, growing up, grief, bravery, conquering darkness, and never giving up. I grew up with this story, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Simply timeless.

A worthy follow-up to Raybearer! I enjoyed this sequel immensely, and I think it did a nice job of wrapping up this magical tale. I felt like the climax was a bit rushed, but other than that 4/5! ⭐️
