This book took far to long to grab me. I was over 3 quarters of the way through the book before I felt a real connection to the characters emotions. Then, almost immediately, the male MC lost all of my trust.

While this book has all the elements to make a "great" book, that I have loved in many other series. Including, but not limited to, alpha males, angels v. demons, upper world v. lower world, other humanoid creatures, and many spicy scenes. I felt like this book fell short when it came to pacing and emotionally connecting the reader to the characters.

Why should I care about the MC? Yes, she's an abused princess that is seeking shelter, literally, underneath another king, but I don't know hardly anything else about her.

Why should I care about the male MC? He is an over-bearing alpha, but he frequently thinks about killing his female love interest. Not protecting her. He has these really flashy interesting friends, but we barely know anything about them.

I needed more from the first book in terms of character building and world building.
