this is a very sweet queer regency romance but i don’t think it functions well as an adaptation as the main theme of the source material (lizzie and darcy’s initial pride and prejudice for each other, and they way their perceptions of the other are proved wrong) is completely missing. i think this would have worked better as an original book without being attached to p&p.

A Restless Truth by Freya Marske

Did not finish book. Stopped at 20%.
bought the book and got about 80 pages in before realizing that the reason i was so confused was this is the second book in a series. oops! i never said i was smart! (i knew the author had other books but thought they were three unrelated stories in the same universe)

i put the first book on hold at the library and will come back to this one once i finish the first :)

I love Emma, and I love Lev AC Rosen, but this did not work for me. The characters all felt much older than high school and many of the classic Emma conflicts were pushed to the end or rushed through. Some of the metaphors/themes ended up very overplayed (how many times do the flower petals have to come up before we get the hint...) That being said I do the characters (especially Miles and Taylor, yes Emmett is a bitch but that's kind of the point of the story) and loved the discussions of how queer relationships can be whatever we want them to be.
