books like this make you wonder how and why there are people out there who can simultaneously be in charge of billions of dollars and have all the credentials in the world, and yet are also somehow clueless enough to not be able to tell they’re about to be defrauded of said billions.

new favourite read of 2024! elizabeth, despite her way of thinking being very advanced for a woman of her time, felt like a real, tangible person who lived. you'll cry, rage, laugh and feel with her. i love the whole "chosen village that raises a child" thing the narrative has going on (madeline and six-thirty are THE CUTEST), as well as the deserved endings for every single character.

the critiques of society are done well, especially without it sounding preachy and condescending, the one-liners are killer and the relationships well thought out and reflective of complicated relationships in the real world. you really couldn't ask for a better book.

this was my lit book but i had way too much fun reading it that i wish it wasn't tbh, that way i'd be able to enjoy it without the added pressure of having to read way too much in between the lines. i might re-read it soon so who knows, maybe i'll enjoy it more
