Wonderful! I laughed, I cried. The reading level for this is about 4th grade, but it's a touching story for all ages.

I'm not sure how obective I'll be on this since I read it in one day all in airports and airplanes. The writing is good, and brought tears to my eyes many times. The main characters (a "native" boy and a British girl) are wonderfully drawn and the way they face their tragedies and grow is engrossing. I was a bit discombobulated by not understanding the setting -- it seemed like a fantasy world but then like ours (it's actually an alternate history). If I could've settled into the personal drama without trying to figure out the overall context It would've been perfect.

I didn't quite finish this one, but it had a lot of good advice as my son turns 10.
