The story, of course, is disturbing and i cannot understand how people can misinterpretated/romanticized it.
Humbert made my blood boil, made me want to bag my head against the wall — but, that's kind of his purpose.
Nabokov's writing is poetically delicious, i loved the way this was written. There are disturbing quotes in his poetic writing that just ate.
the only thing — the reason it's not five stars — is that the part where they travel through US was boring me and the amount of town names etc:. we're overwhelming.
this is fucking hilarious, gory and bloody, but hilarious. How dumb you gotta be to put your ass to the pool filter. Like you obviously didn't pass 6th grade physics. Loved it.
Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

i just finished the books so my thoughts are not organized at all, but jesus fucking christ, that was a rollercoaster. As a greek mythology nerd and percy jackson kid, i already knew what will happen, how it will play out so none of it was surprising. The changes of the original story or details more like, were not even bothering me much, usually they had a good reason to be changed (expect the achilles heel, i personally think that could be left in there? but what i know). My only issue is that Miller is painting most, if not all, the female characters as the ones we are supposed to hate?? Especially Thetis. That just rubs me the wrong way. I did like that, because it's from Patroclus pov, we see the romanticized version of Achilles and just when it cames to Patroclus begging Achilles to fight, to save those men, you can see how Achilles is just not that good of a man. Whiny little brat, literally. Then, Patroclus is basically dying because of him and while he has the right to grief he does it in such brutal (ehm hector) and cry baby way? Like, let Briseis grieve too?? she was just trying to bathe the dirt of him, you jerk. You know? In conclusion, i love the story of achilles and patroclus, this retelling of it was also great (just not the best) and sweet jesus, i could talk about this for years, never stopping.
p.s.: CHIRON YOU'RE THE BIGGEST BESTIE EVER. And i really like the connection/friendship between Briseis and Patroclus :')
this is such a sweet book. The relationship is so cute and just light-hearted, funny. I like that usually in today's culture vampires and werewolf are like enemies. But here, they have a sweet and cute dynamic of a relationship. So adorable. Vamp is also so relatable and effortlessly funny just by how her vampire personality works. And Jimmy welp he's a puppy :33
this book is great and extremely informative if you've never read the bible or don't know much about it. It gives different perspectives of psychoanalysis, anthropology or linguistics views. I really enjoyed those, even though Sigmund Freud was mentioned a lot and i hate that guy.
