Though The Long Walk is not your typical type of horror, a horror it was. I actually really enjoyed that it was written under the Richard Bachman name as it was so different from his works before, i.e. Carrie, The Shining, Salem's Lot, etc.
I always think when any author writes about preteens/teenages the unfolding of their belief in their invincibility to realizing their own mortality and how devastating that is for them is so interesting. Especially when it is specific to being only boys.Their bravado and assurance in themselves that they'll be the last one to end The Long Walk slowly dwindles as boy after boy is "getting their ticket." It was devastating to watch their minds unravel and the gruesome deaths they had to witness and the mental games it played on them. Listening to the audiobook only exacerbated that. I recommend this one HIGHLY! I look forward to my long Stephen King journey. 4.75/5.

I honestly thought this book was going to be another spin-off of queen of hearts or something, I don't know why, but I was pleasantly surprised that it was it's own story and an amazing one at that!

SPOILERS!

I've never read anything like this!
I think Gwyneth's character is lovely. She's just your average 16 year old trying to pass her classes but she has to deal with that fact that her cousin, Charlotte the arrogant, has a time traveling gene.
But just kidding! Gwyneth has the gene and she definitely doesn't want it.
The fact that her mom lied was a little confusing at first like I get you were trying to protect her but couldn't you have warned her a little? She could've had some preparation? Idk, wasn't a fan of that part.
I'm super intrigued for Lucy and Paul's story to flesh out because they weren't really explained in this first book. Gideon is kind of an ass and I'm suspicious that he's into her all of a sudden.
The count who is also a time traveler and can use telekinesis!?!? Why would you trust someone like that? He creeped me out and he's clearly the villain but the fact that no one but him knows what the secret is? Why would people blindly accept that?
I look forward to the next books, amazing story, please read!

Did not finish book. Stopped at 17%.
The story was taking way too long to be interesting and just dragging.
I felt like it was just forcing way too much. I wanted to like this book but that's okay. I tried a new author and it didnt work out, that happens sometimes.
