if i could rate the first part of this book i would give it 5 star. the family turmoil and tumultuous relationship were interesting and hard hitting, but once the party actually started happening it started feeling very disjointed. the omnisient perspective was clunky and the interjection of the pov of random celebrities really messed with the pacing for me.
edit plus one star rating** the ending really put a bad taste in my mouth obviously. though the more i think about this book the more i enjoy it.
i’m sure this will read like a very typical coming of age ya to a lot of people. it hit all the expected beats of independence, friendship, finding yourself, first-love, etc. but it really did mange to feel like it was speaking directly to my soul. so extra points for allowing me to project onto fictional characters to get out of addressing my own problems.
