At first, I was a bit worried the book wouldn’t be up to the hype like butcher and blackbird, but man oh man was I wrong  Christ Jesus is right. And that bonus chapter?!?! 🥵 I was also a little bit surprised I don’t know why I should’ve thought of it but Lark is the Lark duh 🤯 I also really loved Ethel and her wittiness she helped raise this book to the favorites list.

Honestly it seems like a lot of people don’t like this read I really enjoyed it.
This book has been on my TBR for awhile and this is the first book I’ve read by RuNyx and it did not disappoint. I was so enthralled by the story to know about the mystery aspects that I couldn’t put the read down.

Favorite quotes:
“This will last until the day roses on my grave stop sharing roots with roses on yours, I will have you even in death, little witch. I am your beast. I am your madness. And you, you are my afterlife.”

“You are my mountain, my Vad. I don’t know how I understand why, but somehow, I’m building my castle on you.”

“Build your castle, Corvina, I’m not going anywhere. Build your castle as fucking high as you want.”

“You’re the mountain I build my castle on, brick by brick,” she whispered to him, her eyes stinging. “You stand, I soar. You crack, I crumble.”

Luca and Merritt are living their best life that feels very close to perfect…. Until Merritt answers the door-bell one night. Standing before him is a woman…a woman claiming to be Luca’s first wife. But that’s impossible! His first wife Lydia is dead!

It took till 63% for this book to actually catch my attention the twist and turns in this story was one I was expecting. I honestly wasn't sure if I was going to continue this read as the beginning really wasn't catching my attention but I kept reading just to see if it could somehow catch my attention and since I finished it I guess in a way it did for the most part. Even though I knew where this book was going I still appreciated the twist and turns. Do i wish this book was actually a thriller yes. I didn't really see this book as a thriller though as it was just way to predictable to me and the level of suspension of disbelief and absence of logic required with this plotline was more than I could handle.

Holy heck WHAT is all I can say. My best friend has been waiting on me to finish this book to go on to the next day and she’s been done for 8 days if it was the other way around I wouldn’t be able to wait to start the next one. I mean it was slow at first but toward like chapter 50ish it got better and I didn’t want to put the book down.
