Choosing this manga to get back into reading manga on a regular basis was quite the decision on my part: it's a odd story you'd only see on the pages of manga. An alien that's destroyed most of the moon that's on an mission to soon destroy the earth but first wants to teach students...on how to be assassins?
Yup, one volume in and it's made me laugh, captured my attention and made me ponder just what it else it's speaking upon, lending commentary on (a fellow reviewer suggested on Japan's education system?)
It's absolutely too wacky and dare I say, heartwarming to pass up. Five stars!

The monkey's Paw story really brought it home for me in this volume. Probbaly my second favorite volume in volumes 1-6.
I'm so glad that I finally got the chance to read this!!!!
A graphic novel created by a diverse team, Concrete Park is a mix of sci-fi, action and admittedly a bag of everything else under the sun. It's busy and I love it. You've got gun battles, shape shifters, turf wars, melanin blessed characters, women present, in command and with agency of their own bodies....Very much reday for volume two which I already have!

2 Stars? 2.5 Stars? I loved what a page turner this book was. I liked Alexa from the start and as I kept reading...I hated useless the main character Alexa, (or Alex as she had been disguising herself as a man) became once her secret was out! The romance killed off my enthusiasm as she the plot seemed to almost center on it and Alex's new feelings. The plot twist re: Damien's heritage that were revealed blew me away but ultimately left me feeling cheated regarding how he treated Alex. I just didn't care how Alex was the one to protected when she was the best fighter of the royal guard. This book could have dealt away with the unneeded love triangle and focused more on Alex tbh. In the end, I can't say if Alexa had some agency of her own body, at the end of the book she's even horrifically (physically) scarred-a result of her actions in order to bring down a dangerous foe all in the name of protecting the prince and making sure he would be the future king. I have feels about Alexa. I have feels. What all did she gain at the end of this book? Scars that mar her face. A dead brother. Dead comrades, a love that can never be with the prince cause they are two different classes....I cared less about their reunion and more on wondering if they did away with the breeding houses and how did they readjust those poor girls to some kind of life.
I haven't read much shojo in a while but this series totally got the ball rolling back for me into shojo territory. Two siblings, twins with varying degrees of popularity (the brother is well liked, the sister...not so much)happen to do some cross dressings and this gender-bending episode continues to escalate. I REALLY LOVED THAT sign language was present in this story as one of the more important characters/love interests is deaf and communicates through sign language. Bonus points on small panels on basics sign language such as "thank you" and i'm sorry".
