felt like a very surface level middle grade book even though it’s adult. not really much proper storylines showing how we get point A to B, like how did lilah and sparkle become friends all of a sudden. reads a lot like fanfiction. the romance was too rushed and i didn’t feel like i was rooting for them. i did love learning about the funeral industry though, that was all really interesting. and queerness was normative, especially for the south, which was nice to see

“symbolism is a threat to actual change — it’s a chance for those in power to say “look how far you have come” rather than admitting “look how long we’ve stopped you from getting here”

super cute, chemistry off the charts. enjoyed reading this from start to finish, but was a little unsatisfied with how rushed and open-ended the ending was

the writing was incredibly sensually sapphic but the message of this book is incredibly off-putting, made clear by now realizing the author is israeli. a happy ending between a jewish lady and another lady whose family repossessed her house and all its belongings after their father died in a concentration camp and defaulted on their payments? incredibly strange plot subtly condoning certain violent political beliefs
