It was an honor to read this in my Bronzeville apartment, thinking about the complexity of Chicago and the ways this city has molded me into who I am today. Thankful for Moore’s work!

Recommend to: residents of Chicago (specifically white residents), social workers, city planners, politicians, and anyone who might lean toward describing Chicago’s south side in just one word—this book complicates the ways the south side has been simplified by the media and its (whiter) northern residents. Check it out!
All About Love: New Visions by bell hooks

Love the structure and subject. Love the sources uplifted by hooks. Love the critique of patriarchy we expect from hooks’ work.

Arguments filling in the structure didn’t hold up for me. Language too glaringly binary. Was distracted by dated ideologies around gender and the negative portrayal of “young” people, so while it might have been an important book when published, I found it didn’t hold up. (*Currently squirming a bit offering a less than affirming critique of bell hooks.*)

It was a gift to read this, especially because its author is a close friend!

The story is tender, the artistry is phenomenal, and the coloring is stunning. A joy to read!
