the writing style was unique and made total sense for the target audience the author had in mind when writing about such a sensitive topic

this is a fantastic book for its genre, just not my personal cup of tea. only read it for a storygraph challenge, but i did appreciate the chilean history cause i’d never heard anything about it before

thoughts while reading

Victor thought how ironic it would be to have survived the war and the concentration camp only to die squashed like a cockroach in his improbable girlfriend's vehicle.

Going around in a sulk will get you nowhere. Pain is unavoidable, but suffering is optional.

p299: was not expecting this level of deception

i mean it was a great book for its genre, but just not really my cup of tea.
that said, i did appreciate the chance to diversify my reading. literary fiction is a rarity for me, and this book had a unique-to-me plot.
read it for a storygraph challenge, so instead of dnfing, i switched to audiobook to get through it easier

I step forward, feeling his familiar pull. Maybe it's the bond between us, like an invisible string pulling me toward him. Or maybe I'm scared and desperate for any comfort I can find. Last time I stood here, I was ashamed of how much I wanted him. Now I'm ashamed of how much I still do.

77%: 😱💀
