A terrifying vision of a capitalist dystopia, where there is no apocalyptic end of the world; instead the world has been ending for years. The Marigold starts off strong following 4 seemingly unconnected lives of people living in a Toronto struggling under the weight of global climate catastrophe and capitalism. Each protagonist's lives begin to bump into one another's as the mystery of the Wet unravels. Unfortunately, this is where the book fell short for me. Though it had a strong beginning that kept me hooked, the middle began to slouch and the ending was less of a bang and more of a sizzle in a frustratingly thematically underwhelming way. 4.3 stars - the writing is gorgeous throughout.

Absolutely gorgeous novel. The world building is fantastically intriguing. But the real highlight of this is the voice of the narrator. I read this one as an audiobook and the performance was incredible. Our narrator's voice is haunting yet self-assured.
