Something lurks in the dark and eats brains. We more or less know what it is, but of course, the author changes his mind several times.

I've wanted to read Preston & Child for a long time, mainly because of the coincidence of the name Lincoln Child with Lee Child. Was I enchanted or disappointed? I don’t know—I think I need a few days to process what I just experienced.

The style is a mix between Alien and Indiana Jones, the genre—a sci-fi thriller. The Amazon is involved, of course; where else would one find a mystical statue and an even more mystical monster?

The main flaw of the book is that it introduces multiple main characters solely so we can watch them scream in the dark. There is some minimal logic in all the screaming and character deaths, but even a superficial analysis of events would make everything collapse like a house of cards.

Somewhere between 3 and 4 stars—interesting, engaging, with plenty of annoying horror exploitation moments and a lousy magic system.
