Wow this was amazing. The sequel ‘The Traitor Queen’ was everything I wanted. I thoroughly enjoyed how the consequences of Lara’s actions were not just forgiven and forgotten. Especially by Aren. But you felt that he still loved her so much and that it was the most painful heart ache for him between Lara and his people. I found it to be more realistic, albeit painful, them both knowing that the Ithicanian’s would never accept her again after what resulted from her treachery.
However, I felt that some things needed to be explained to make it even better. Small things like how they got their hands on the plans she burned and how they got into Eranahl. I suspected a double agent in the midst like Jor giving the letter or setting the plans into place, as a result of a darker back story. Although this wasn’t a big deal I just thought it was going to be explained but it wasn’t.
Also the way the King’s death is anticipated the entire time and how it actually turned out was disappointing. I expected it to be grander and more graphic and stuff but it wasn’t. Some other stuff I would like to see was the actual aftermath in Ithicana and her sisters!!! They are a major part of the plot and were written off to a small part of the story.

I loved this book sooo much. I wasn’t sure how I would like the premise but it definitely delivered. Lara was a bad bitch and the author made sure we knew it. I really liked how the author displayed her train of thinking. Instead of just stating that she had the mind of a deadly strategist, the author exhibited it through her actions and thoughts. Even down to her body language and the way Aren might read it. I loved that and how the audience knew she was a trained assasin.
I loved the reunion with the sisters and that Marilyn knew all along that the sisters would be killed. It made it super interesting. Aren’s shock at who Lara was trained to be was great and felt so real.

Wow. This is the sequel to the first novel of the Crescent City series and I loved this just as much, if not more than the first novel. And that was a 5 star for me. Just wow, this was f*cking amazing. Honestly, the best series I’ve ever read. Having read both the Throne of glass series and ACOTAR (which I both loved but felt ACOTAR was quite predictable) this far exceeded my expectations. Not predictable at all and she buried the clues in from the start, allowing you to connect the dots when all is revealed. My only complaint is the cliffhanger it left on!!! Where is the next book I need it now!
I fully had no clue that this would be a multiverse situation and now that I’ve done some internet reading, Throne of glass is definitely going to come into play as well. I am obsessed with the fact that Feyre and Rhysand are included in this. I have so many questions. Why does Rhys look like Ruhn? They must be related right? But how? To me Hunt and Bryce are definitely end game but I feel as though there might be a bit of a love triangle in the mix.

Anyways I absolutely have loved this series and it is 5 stars all ‘round for me. Can’t wait for the next one…

This is genuinely one of the best books I’ve read.
I could not put this book down from start to finish, this was an emotional roller coaster. I loved just about everything about this book and I find it hard to name things that I didn’t like. The length was great because these days we don’t often see lengthier books being produced; they’re always 300 pages and over before you know it.
This storyline was complex and dark and the twists and turns were not exactly foreseeable which I loved. One thing I tend to hate with fantasy is that often an author will try and make it unpredictable by making up new shit that we’ve never heard of and it’s very unsatisfying. You can always tell as well. Sarah J Maas did not do this in house of earth and blood. She provided the puzzle pieces all throughout the novel and showed you how they pieced together in the end. I loved it.
The one thing I found difficult was the overload of information provided in the beginning, especially with Hunt’s story. I felt like I glazed over a lot of the details with the Angel War and didn’t end up needing to know half of it. It can be hard for people to get into fantasy this way as there’s just soo many facts and too little story. But this was a very small thing and wasn’t enough to bump my score down.
This was a fantastic novel. Let’s hope the sequel is just as good, if not better.

I really enjoyed this book! The trope of bodyguard x princess is what originally reeled me in and it definitely kept me wanting more. I also thought this was going to be a predictable little love story which these novels mainly are, but I was pleasantly surprised when the plot actually had a story! There was even a few twists that weren’t completely predictable! I binged this in like 2 days, overall it was really good.
