this is a QUICK and visceral read like no other. holy shit i hated June but I know that’s the point. very enjoyable but also enraging, and of course thought provoking. so different from Babel! Wow.

I devoured this book. I love the way it considers and then beautifully reflects ideas of ancient philosophy, and just generally appreciating the world around you. the first section is tough, but it really is bigger on the inside than you would expect. beautiful. i’ll be thinking about it for a while

i liked this! it built the world very well and I enjoyed the connections between the characters. it didn’t change my life, but i think it was well made.

very select parts of this book stuck into me like a knife, but the rest of it really went on. i just did not enjoy most of the periphery, but im sure steinbeck would argue that none of it should be sidelined. the main theme of free will and forgiveness was beautifully woven through the characters. i loved the ending and i found cathy, lee, and cal extremely interesting characters. the rest of it was meh.
