Love at Second Sight was darker than I expected it to be, partially because it involves a murder, but also because it seems to be a metaphor for discovering your identity and having to fight for your your rights. Some truly disturbing stuff goes down at the book's climax, and it was stressful.

The whole book isn't like that, though. Much of it is about the drama of high school—having crushes, making friends, losing friends, and discovering one's place in the world.

Found family is central to this paranormal mystery, and it was by far my favorite aspect of the story. At one point, the characters refer to themselves as the Scooby gang, and that's pretty much what they are!

If you're looking for a fun, spooky YA, you can't go wrong with Love at Second Sight by FT Lukens!
