3.5

Finally a YA fantasy protagonist that doesn’t feel like a cry for help. Whilst I wasn’t a massive fan of the general cacophony of this book - the plot moves really fast and needs you to remember a lot of details for any of the aha moments to make sense - I absolutely loved the characters, especially Percy. I feel like this series will be really easy for me to read because I want him to win. Beautiful world building and roots solidly in actual Greek myths, charmingly adapted to fit these ancient themes into a modern world in a way that makes sense. I wasn’t a fan of the shoe horned “twist” at the end but I guess that’s just part of the genre.

3.5 stars. Looking forward to reading the next one.
