This book is incredible. My highest praise has to be the characters: I relate highly to both Yumi and Painter and I loved watching them grow together to form a beautiful, significant relationship that helps them grow as individuals and sort through the problems that riddle their lives due to both their own shortcomings/insecurities as well as external problems that they face together throughout the story.

I've been wanting to read MRK's books for years now, and this was a great introduction into her body of work! Anyone who knows much about MRK won't be surprised to hear my primary praise of her scientific worldbuilding details and wholesome central romance.

Great characters, and an evocative writing style, but overall I'm not sure that this book is one of Kay's more memorable stories. I'd still recommend it to people who are fans of Kay or fans of the genre, but I would still recommend other books higher.

I originally read these books when I was in elementary school and LOVED them, but it had been so long that I had forgotten a lot of the specifics of the series. So, in preparation for the TV show that was coming out, I decided that it was time for a reread. And it did not disappoint! This book is funny, digestible, and hard to put down. It's very deservedly a gateway for many children to becoming lifelong fantasy lovers.

It's so, so important that these stories are told and read.

An action-packed ending to the trilogy! While there are one or two plot threads whose resolutions I didn't love, overall, this book does a great job on wrapping up everything in the trilogy in an exciting, difficult-to-anticipate yet satisfying way.

It's criminal that this book isn't more popular! This story is so much fun, while also heavy hitting. More people need to read this book!

I always enjoy immersing myself back into this world and series! It's true that the pacing is awfully slow in these books, but I don't think that's a problem that's unique to any sort of "slog" section that I so infamously here attributed to this middle Wheel of Time books. I can sense that we're building, building, building to epic things to come, and I'm definitely enjoying this process for what it is and how it allows me to just live alongside these characters that I've grown to love.
