This was entertaining! I was salty about some twists and choices, but whatever. The inner panic, over-the-top moments, the mistrust and misunderstandings, the affection and friendships. It's a wild ride. Read it tho! :)

Shen Qingqiu, the semi-otaku, Helen of Troy and breaker of the fourth wall, is such a chaotic character. Thank the lord that heโs finally understanding that he's been too carefree in dealing with Luo Binghe and his own circumstances, so he actually feels a little guilty about it. But those 3/5 years.. nah man. Goodbye! :D

This was entertaining! I was salty about some twists and choices, but whatever. The inner panic, over-the-top moments, the mistrust and misunderstandings, the affection and friendships. It's a wild ride. Read it tho! :)

The story centers on Shen Yuan, a semi-otaku who dies and is reincarnated into the body of Shen Qingqiu, a scum villain from a popular web novel called Proud Immortal Demon Way ( transmigration novel). Hence - he's stuck as the bad guy whoโs destined to get brutally killed by his own disciple, Luo Binghe, the protagonist (by being a human stick).
Armed with nothing but his knowledge of the original story, his first mission is pretty much: Donโt die horribly. His genius plan? Be less of a terrible teacher to Luo Binghe and somehow keep his head attached. But things aren't that easyโespecially in a world full of battles, sect drama, and wild plot twists. Every time Shen Qingqiu tries to fix things, they usually backfire spectacularly. Like, truly. Overall - Shen Qingqiu is trying to survive and not turn Luo Binghe into the ultimate villainโwhile also dealing with all the chaos of the cultivation world. The story blends fantasy, action, and a lot of meta-humor (sometimes dumb, sometimes truly hilarious) as he tries to rewrite his destiny.
Shen Qingqui/Shen Yuan and Luo Binghe - the babes you both are! ๐ฅฐ
Shen Yuan aka now Shen Qingqui is for real, a normal dude. He just wants peace and pretty much to observe this novels characters. His demeanor may look sophisticated and calm yet internally this guy is panicking 1000% while cursing everything and everyone. And then we have cutie Luo Binghe - I love him so much! This sweet baby is well.. classic protagonist so you (and his 3.000 women harem members) can't not love him haha
So yeah - if you are in reading slump and are looking for something fresh and unfamiliar - read this danmei/xianxia story hehe! If you're into stories that poke fun at classic tropes - again, read this :D

First of all - I don't know how to rate this still. I'll give 4 stars because fuck it. I will question myself in front of Purgatory gates when I arrive.
BAB is a novel filled with pain and untruthful communication. Not even talking about unhinged and very questionable scenes. Despite main character erratic and sometimes cruel personalities, everyone is deserving of love and respect, right? Honestly it took me a while to connect with the MC's. They can come across as cold, crazy, apathetic, and emotionally distant, but thereโs a reason behind their behaviors. Their emotions are intricate and laden with pain, misunderstanding, loss, and resentment, often directed at each other.
The romance unfolds slowly, which might not be to everyoneโs taste. But that's my cup of tea. Also, there will be some very dark and twisted scenes and one of them particular (some tw's - rape, humiliation, physical pain). You live trough their mindset. You understand yet don't *someone's* actions. I'm dark romance reader. I read also red/black flag BL manhwa's/manga's etc. and this holds the candle with them. You will either go with the flow or quit reading this. No in-between, I guess. Anywhooo - I need next book to see how they will actually communicate and come to truly love each other. At least I hope they will :D

My first novel by Meatbun (Rou Bao Bu Chi Rou) and it was so strange. So, so strange. There are 171,476 words in English language per 2024 yet it is hard for me to explain what I'm feeling (I write this after reading Vol 2 couple days ago).
BAB has an element of Sc-fi and mystery behind the upcoming murders, and overall mayhem. The story is set in a โscientificโ environment, a fictionalized version of our modern world. It's batshit crazy and unhinged, my friend. And this is only Vol 1. Although I didnโt personally mind it, readers should be aware not to expect rigorous logic or accurate scientific terms. As this is danmei genre, we have ofc two love interests - He Yu and Xie Qingcheng (13y age gap). Both straight and homophobic guys (it was reminded to us several times throughout both volumes). XQ is a divorced man who likes to keep everything bottled inside. He's also a former HY's doctor for many years. And has some secrets. He has also a sister - Xie Xue, current crush/childhood friend for He Yu. He Yu is a 19yo screenwriting/directing student and Case #4 of a rare disease called psychological Ebola. The more inner thought of him you read the more you learn how unlucky with his childhood and life in general he is. Not even talking about his family. No wonder he grew up like this (not saying how is he as ..spoilers).
These two had a falling-out years ago and still are at each other throats throughout yet again.. both volumes. Honestly, I felt frustrated due to the severe lack of truthful communication between HY and XQ. They will have a long distance to cover until they will be truly happy.
Strengths: The portrayal of emotions and the depth of character pain are a focus here. You wonโt find an overwhelming number of side plots or extensive backstories here, and the character cast isnโt vast. The narrative primarily focuses on HY and XQ, so in principal - not a lot of heavy world-building, so in this regard it's easy to read.
Weaknesses: My main issues are repetition, overuse of certain phrases and feeling of drawn-out inner monologues. Sometimes it was hard for me to get the meaning behind translated sentences.
I've heard some polarizing comments about this series, so ofc I had to continue reading this. If not for some comments from people who enjoyed this book, I would have went in blind and probably ended up not continuing with this. Yet, here I am. I'll write more in my next review for Vol 2.

I have no proper thoughts for this review, so I'll settle on some random jumble:
Author was like - lets kick up a notch for misery, weird or unrealistic moments, painful truths and drama. As I said in my book 1 review, this may not be the greatest writing but it's sure as hell addictive. I flew trough this book in what felt like 3 seconds. The characters are the ones that keep your interest throughout the series. Of course there's also a plot. The gang - they are a hot mess and argue at every opportunity. But despite all that, they would still go to any lengths to protect one another if someone else tried to harm them. That's the found family aspect I love to read about.

I have no proper thoughts for this review, so I'll settle on some random jumble:
Author was like - lets kick up a notch for misery, weird or unrealistic moments, painful truths and drama. As I said in my book 1 review, this may not be the greatest writing but it's sure as hell addictive. I flew trough this book in what felt like 3 seconds. The characters are the ones that keep your interest throughout the series. Of course there's also a plot. The gang - they are a hot mess and argue at every opportunity. But despite all that, they would still go to any lengths to protect one another if someone else tried to harm them. That's the found family aspect I love to read about.

This book is a psychological and philosophical rollercoaster. Author is happily dragging us through twisted and creepy paths, offering us just enough light to draw us further into the madness. And I welcomed all of it.
In my opinion, Halen is quite unreliable narrator, and Lucy portrayed her beautifully! The uncertain and questionable state of her mind was truly overworked when cunning 'panty-dropping smile owner' Kallum was around her. Initially, I was not that attached to Sebastian's narration or overall dynamic between va's. But once I finished LBT and started LVT - I changed my mind. They are them - the master manipulator and his muse. Their chemistry. The unstable feeling. Author's vivid macabre storytelling. Murder-mystery and all the gruesome, and shocking details. Everything just works. Kudos to Trisha for creating this dark and disturbed world, with one hella alluring couple. Kinda scary how some people's brilliant mind works.

Because maybe it was enough to have one person, one person who believed, one person who had faith in him.โ
Plot twists, multi pov chapters, character developments, romantic moments (kudos to author for restraining herself in YA genre, because some moments I wanted to scream mooooaaarr!!) and hidden truths. Pacat easily convinces you to root or be angry towards the characters despite everything. The writing was engaging and crafted seamlessly, my emotions were all over the place and I'm hungry for more of this world. Will and James are everything. Anharion and Sacrean are everything. We still don't know all the details and happening in the past, so I'm very eager to see what is in store for us in the next installment.
I wanted to talk about Will. His mother was probably abusive, punishing him for what he might become. Without considering his past life, he's just a child, yet he's already treated with hate. As he grows up, he tries hard to be good and improve, but no one gives him a chance, which makes his loneliness so tragic. He kept his identity hidden, afraid of rejection, and sadly, he was rightโeveryone turned against him except James. People only see his past, not who he is now. Though he wants to fight the darkness, their rejection ironically drives him closer to it.
My hope for the next book is that he embraces his darkness and all his memories are fully back. Let him be the villain they oh so desperately see. Turn up the angst, danger, romance and friendship! We readers are ready :)
