Went blind into it so I didn't really know what to expect: Murder mystery? Thriller? Psychological horror? Horny? Well... Yes.
Magical realism needs to be this or bust from now on, Gabo move aside.

Aside from a couple scenes that I feel were unnecessary, I'm glad that I gave this a chance. Very entertaining, love it when catholics bring to life the gayest most depraved shit to hate on it so I can be horny on main.

It felt a bit slow around the middle but the end was... what a cliffhanger!

Having the time of my life reading about Blue and the boys. This one's a bit more Ronan centered (as a friend of mine lovingly pointed out), and I loved it because as a Capricorn I obviously have a penchant for showy, snarky and emotionally damaged boys so 10/10 no comments.

It's definitely a product of its time...
I zoned out a bit on the last third because I didn't care for the main characters anymore but I wanted to know what happened to Dylan.

Alossa's behavior throghout was so rank and I hated that we were only allowed to feel pain or anger or any emotion if she was feeling it. Lots of things happen only as shock factor or to justify Alossa's decisions so at one point it I stopped wondering about the plot and just let myself carry forward because clearly there is only one captain to this ship and it's the author. Some research into sailing was made, but I wish the author had researched more into pirates and their war strategies in a book this heavy with action.
In the first book it's not that obvious too but I don't like the way this series portrays men as evil and dangerous and the language, plus some of the gendered mechanics of mermaids rubs me the wrong way.

There's a book hidden in here that I would really like to read. The prompts are good, but I feel at one point the author tried to add every trope and quirky quirk and it made the story very scattered and superficial.
