Lala's Married Life, Vol. 4 - Special Edition by Tamekou

Ramdane has finally left! The big secret is out and Ramdane is off on another adventure with new guy Luka.

This volume definitely increases the mystery around Wolsey and his family, while at the same time trying to answer questions about their past. Badma makes a big return, which reveals even more secrets about the Brooktine family.
Ramdane's maid, Yahn, is so lovely and loyal. I love that she finally stands up to Wolsey.

Ramdane is finally settling in, then there are THREE huge plot twists that really drive the plot in a new direction:
* Badma, Wolsey's older brother, appears
* Wolsey's dad convinced Ramdane to agree to bringing in a second wife, so that Wolsey can produce a child to continue the family line
* and Ramdane discovers a huge secret about Wolsey's motives for their wedding.
There is a lot going on in this volume, but it all feeds into driving the plot forward. Ramdane is much more feisty in this volume, and gets more than just sex scenes. However, there is a VERY blatant and obvious use of drugging him for sex that is much more crystal clear than volume 1.

This is an interesting start to the story. Ramdane takes his twin sister's place in an arranged marriage so she can escape to be with the one she loves. What he doesn't know is that his new husband, Wolsey, knew about the switch all along!
There's definite non-con - in fact, Wolsey drugs Ramdane with some kind of aphrodisiac to get him eager for sex - which is kind of gross and feels casual at first. (In later volumes, it's addressed more appropriately)
The story is interesting enough to continue, but there is a heavy non-con element and there is a lot of sex - sometimes far too much, and more than the story requires. Sadly, Ramdane becomes a bit of a one-trick pony in this volume, being used just for sex and getting little more story beyond that.

Sangwoo is a stickler for rules, so when he's shafted on a class project he honestly takes credit for 100%. Unfortunately that pisses off the 3 freeloaders of his group, including Jaeyoung, who now can't graduate!
Surprisingly, Jaeyoung had a bit of a crush on Sangwoo until he realises it was Sangwoo who delayed his graduation. He sure can be an evil genius though, disrupting every aspect of Sangwoo's well ordered life and his jealousy knows no bounds.
Jihye is amazing! She's so sweet and supportive, and a surprising friend for Sangwoo, but exactly what he needs as his world is turned entirely upside down by Jaeyoung.
It sounds like Sangwoo has problems with emotions and facial blindness, which is the cause of his rift with Jaeyoung. Jaeyoung is so used to being loved and adored, to being popular, that he can't stand it when he realises that Sangwoo doesn't remember him.
I found the story interested, but Jaeyoung really is an annoying ass. It was so constant - in ways that would drive me crazy - that I ended up not liking him very much. His POV scenes helps a little, but Vol 2 will need to work hard to improve my view of him.

This was the perfect book to end the year!
Soshi is so quiet and gentle - a metal fan who has severe social anxiety and sometimes can barely even speak to strangers. He finds his neighbour Kento - newly moved into an apartment without heating - outside in the snow, freezing to death. Soshi brings him inside, cooks and takes care of him, and somehow it becomes a routine. Soshi cooks for Kento, who praises his cooking and starts coming by for breakfast and dinner...
...for a year.
A year passes and their friendship is blossoming, but so are Kento's feelings, because he's been harbouring a secret from Soshi - he's gay.
I won't say any more as that would spoil the plot, but let's just say that I loved both characters equally. Kento is outgoing, talkative and works with children; Soshi is a baker and a metalhead, with a heavy fear of speaking. They're total opposites, but they're wonderful together.
I loved the little girl giving Kento romance counselling and talking about consent! That was amazing, and such a fun scene.
The plot was strong and lovely, very wholesome (though there is a hint of spice at the very end, but it's not overly explicit). The artwork was stunning! This was easily one of the best of the year and I'll be rec'ing it everywhere in 2025.

Worst Soulmate Ever, Volume 1 by Haruta
4.0
Yu Shishikura actually wants to get married and find his mate, while the people around him who don't are the ones who end up actually getting married. In desperation he applies to be matched by an agency.
Then in walks Haruto Kotani, new to the company Shishikura works for, who remembers him from middle school...though Shishikura needs some not-so-gentle prodding to remember him.
Queue accidental heat during a work night out and...wham bam, we have a match. 😉
Oh my, a business trip they have to go on together and it's...only one bed!
It's a combination of hate and convenience sex.
It ends with an HFN ending that suits the characters and their unusual situation. I'm looking forward to the next volume!

A Gentle Noble's Vacation Recommendation: Volume 9 by Misaki

WOW! I finally caught up with all the released volumes, and we got to meet Variant Ruler! What an interesting character, but I'm glad that the story wrapped up quickly. It fitted the theme of the series so far, which isn't to spend too long on one adventure.
The elven women were so interesting and I could see them being important in the future.
I LOVED Gil's part in this plotline and can't wait to see how the tentative romance/jealousy progresses in future volumes.

This was such an interesting deviation from the previous stories, because it's got an on-going plot between volumes and a new bad guy to investigate, rather than a single story plot. The Variant Ruler is a magic user who is causing chaos and it's so interesting to see his impact.
Gil had to cut Lizel for magical reasons, and the way he hated it made him come across as such a softie! I can't wait to see where the series goes from here.

OMG! We finally get the first real hint of something close to romantic feelings! Gil is worried that Lizel wants to go home - after seeing his dad and the King - and his relief to know Lizel isn't in a hurry is adorable! His jealousy of the King is so cute!
Is it possible that Lizel is in the past of his own country? Things are starting to slightly add up, but there's no telling with this series how things will pan out. Could Nina's brave brother be the beloved Majesty?
I love that side characters keep appearing for small cameos.
