Love in the Big City by Sang Young Park
5.0
I really enjoyed reading this book. It took me a bit of time to realise that it was the same character throughout all four chapters but also I don’t think the author wanted us to think that. He does say at the end that Young is different in all fours stories hence why I was unsure for most of the book.
It’s a lovely story about love and queerness and the good and sad moments that surround these topics.
Update: it’s like two days later and I just re-read the last paragraph… it’s a sad story guyyyys; made me shed a tear

The Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff

I really like the concept of explaining academic concepts in a simplified way. Can’t all philosophies be portrayed through characters like Pooh?
I did find myself getting lost from time to time because the text would jump form the story to its explanation to a new story really quickly and at times I found myself reading emptily.
Overall it’s a really good book and I understood the basis of it which is the important part.

I think I should re-read this book. It’s written really well but then again I wasn’t paying enough attention to it cuz if life.
Anyways, I’ll still give it an overall review:
- I loved the structure of the book. The character narrative switching every chapter made it more engaging and the bandwidth of the story doubled that way.
- I love how much of a slow burner this book was! I usually don’t like slow paced booked but with this one I really wants to get to the end of just to find out what’s happening.
- Nothing was obvious as well. I never expected the things that happened. I knew I wasn’t reading the most realistic books out there but I also did not know how much into the fictional world we were diving which made it an amazing experience.
Idk.. I liked it!

It’s definitely a 5 star book. What makes it that? The way the story was delivered.
She did a great job. You could feel her pain through the text and it’d make you uncomfortable. This is how you know it’s good writing!
I hated reading it and I loved learning about her story. It’s good to have stories like that out there. They are influential, they show people the different realities we live in and how we shouldn’t just assume it’s all good.
I personally would’ve loved to read about her journey of realising and accepting her mothers abuse the way she did with her eating disorder but then again, it’s someone personal life so I’ll accept skipping ahead.
I appreciate the short chapters. It was punchy in a way. You’d get to the point of the chapter and then move on. No rambling, no over explaining, no unnecessary text. It was all to the point and shocking!
Definitely a good read. I don’t know if it’d be as interesting to someone who didn’t grow up watching Nickelodeon but I’d like to assume that doesn’t matter!

I am confused as to why my data is not saved but I read the book not too long ago and I just finished it for the second time.
I love it. It's just so sweet, so different but yet so regular. It has its own lil east asian twist but ir not shockingly weird or philosophical. I love how the stories are connected and I love how they each bring tears to my eyes.
The book is not 5 start one (even though I gave it that the first time) but it's pretty damn close to that. It holds a good warm spot in my heart.
