The Bet by Rachel Van Dyken

I would consider this book a friends to enemies to lovers trope. Which made for an interesting character dynamic. The banter between Jake, Travis and Kacey was excellent, Rachel Van Dyken has a real knack for witty quips and it was amusing to read. Travis and Kacey were very funny, if not a little immature, but the steamy scenes between the two of them made up for any cringey behavior on their parts. Jake was a lovable asshole, which if we’re all being honest here, is the best kind to read about. I’m super glad he is getting his own book (book two, The Wager) because he has a lot of backstory I wanted to dive into.
But, POSSIBLE SPOILER: The queen of the entire book, is Grandma Nadine. She truly embodies what I hope to become one day when I am 80 years old. She does and says whatever she wants, is sleeping around with all the neighbors and has a wonderful relationship with her grandchildren. She’s a peach. She’s just living her best life and I am here for it

This book. Is. Epic. It’s got swoony romance, intense action, exciting adventure, mysteries to solve and bad guys to gut. You guys, Jennifer really out did herself when she wrote From Blood and Ash (FB&A).

It’s possible that this is my favorite book in the Fallen Crest series. And it’s only a novella
