Although i found the end a bit confusing and not how i expected it to be i really really liked this book and would definitely recommend it to my friends :) I liked the main character and the way everything was written a lot and i’m definitely gonna read the author’s other book that’s going out next year !

The story of Lolita is absolutely sad and disturbing and shows a worst-case-scenario of sexual and mental abuse of young girls. Lolita, Dolores, Lo, Lola - whatever you want to call her, she was abused and manipulated by H.H and the story just gets more and more tragic thoughout the book.
The writing on the other hand left me speechless, as it goes so deeply into the twisted mind of the narrator who obviously is a pedophile and should not be romanticized.
I hate how differently the internet describes this story compared to what it actually is and i think to have an actual say in that conversation you need to read the book (watching the movie isnt enough in this case in my opinion). I both loved and hated this story and im still a bit shocked but thats my opinion so far, although i can definitely see myself reading this again in a few months or years.

I feel like this book had so much potential but wasn't executed well- I was really really excited to read this but nearly dnf'd it cause it literally sucked. For the same reason I don't think I'll be reading the other books (although I REALLY wanted to and I wanted to love this book).
ok so here's why the book just wasn't it:
-characters are incredibly dull, Mare didn't do ANYTHING and had everyone else make decisions for her
-romance scenes had potential but ended up being short and boring and they don't make you feel ANYTHING
-the war??? there's more detail needed than 'there's a war going on'
-I HATE Cal and Julian omg I'm so pissed rn

Two stars cause the potential was there, the cover is beautiful and the world building was kind of okay.

I absolutely loved this book since it's exactly what I'm interested in. The characters (especially the MC and Emma) are super well-written and in general the story is very entertaining.
While it might me slightly disturbing or odd to some people it was exactly my cup of tea- female mc, crime, female rage- it had all that which makes this a perfect book for me. Can definitely see myself reading more of Summers' books.
I also really love the cover tbh (I have the Faber&Faber edition)
