Gripping and imaginative, this book was everything I wanted in an afternoon read.

This book was plenty interesting, but I take major issue with the ending. The fact that she found out that the whole last few terrible weeks of her life had been a closely watched test with people doubting her and analysing her every decision, for her to turn around and say "you gave me so many chances, thanks" at the end of it all just feels so unrealistic it's offensive. If a real person was in her shoes they would probably continue to feel utterly betrayed and grow into even more trust issues and fear. I would have continued to feel utterly betrayed and powerless, I would probably have a panic attack. So basically, it is terribly unrealistic and I hated that ending.
Other than that the book was good! Lol

This book is a very personal and candid depiction of people struggling to both survive and live through war. It follows a political idealist and the people surrounding him before the establishment of Biafra, during the war, and after the fall of Biafra.
Books like this help us grasp the humanity of war, hate, destruction, starvation and, death.

Warning: lots of mature content (depiction of rape, blood and violence, and also frequent description of sexual relations and mastrabation)
