tbh i don’t think my rating can be harsh because i loved divine rivals so much that even though this book was disappointing i still kinda enjoyed it because rebecca ross know what she’s doing and she has such a talent at creating a magical and enthralling setting
BUT, the story and plot felt pretty flat to me like i expected more, especially for the background and the characterization of the gods like they had no personality at all.
even though i still loved the romance and roman was still wholesome in this book it lacked angst and tension we didn’t get as many scenes as i would’ve liked
but i think the biggest disappointment is definitely the end because i’m sorry but what was that?? we waited 2 books for the war to end and dacre to die and we didn’t even get details like it literally was « she killed him….the end »
but as i said before the author has a beautiful and bewitching writing style so i don’t think i can give less than 3.5 even though plot wise it really doesn’t deserve more

so i’ll start first with what i didn’t like about the book. i found the world building to be weird and boring like the king arthur thing i’m sorry but that was funny. but most importantly the book was pretty much just info dumping, the magic system or just the plot in general was very confusing. i also didn’t like the romance in this book. like first the relationship that was going on was pretty insta lovey and boring. like the characters especially the guys were very generic. transition to my other point, I HATE LOVE TRIANGLES they don’t do it for me except making me angry like i reaally can’t with them i’m sorry it’s visceral. and i didn’t really get attached to the characters i pretty much didn’t care about them sooo
theen to what i liked about this book because yes there are things that i liked
i liked the part about rootcraft and bloodcraft, mostly bree’s history and how slavery and white supremacy was dealt with but sadly we didn’t see enough of that in my opinion. so i think what i liked the most in this book were the topics explored such as like i said before racism, slavery but also grief. even though i found the characters generic and boring i really liked how bree dealt with her grief and what she was going through.
