Some beautiful parts and an interesting look at the life of AKR. A bit too repetitive and sappy for my tastes though

I enjoyed this one a lot more than Legendborn, which I thought was fine, but didn't win me over. The machinations of a centuries old order with rigid rules and populated with teenagers just didn't interest me a whole lot. In this installment, we see a lot more of [mild spoilers] the demon/human interactions outside the order and there is a greater emphasis on root craft. I enjoyed getting to meet some (partial) demons and learning that they're not as straightforwardly evil as they are painted by the order . I'm definitely interested to see where this goes!

Changer l'eau des fleurs by Valérie Perrin

This could have been so good, but alas it didn't work for me. The pacing was a bit of a mess, it takes too long to get to know the end-game, by which time I almost lost intere. I also absolutely did not like the redemption arc of the abusive, predatory POS that is Philippe Toussaint....

Excellent premise, middling execution.
Very superficial and shallow. Also verrrry repetitive, it feels like every conversation needs to happen three times. The protagonists don't really have distinct personality except one is Grieving a Good husband who Died and the other is Grieving a Bad husband who Left.
Advertised as slow burn, but they immediately fall in love and the "burn" is tepid as best.
Both main characters are Jewish, but the Jewish culture representation feels very charicatural. This may be due to the whole thing lacking any depth whatsoever.
Ideal if you need something uncomplicated to turn your brain off, provided you have a high tolerance for corny and borderline cringy dialogue.
