It was overdue at the library and I simply am averse to classics even when they're redone...

A vast family chronicle of... words on a page sometimes. Grief from the youth's perspective was explored far better than the more seasoned characters but I'm unsure if that was on purpose or not. It made for an interesting narrative, but not a compelling one after a while. Shruggy about this.

Monotonous, sluggish, and 80% dialog. Clearly not my favorite contemporary family novel which is a shame because the premise was something special. I almost didn't finish. But I did like reading Mike. His melancholy was familiar.
Louis Armstrong: The Offstage Story of Satchmo by Michael Cogswell
I mostly picked this up to see what an archival biography was like, so I skimmed. But I did linger on the sections about Lucille, their house, and Clarence and not for nothing!
It's Not Carpal Tunnel Syndrome!: RSI Theory and Therapy for Computer Professionals by Jack Bellis, Suparna Damany Mspt
Great reference; I will be revisiting it whenever I need it but it has also helped me feel better/confident about not feeling great when my bad habits cause me physical pain đ and how it doesn't have to stay that way LOL

Not to sound like an (Asian, disclaimer) idiot but a lot of my DNF books have Asian girls/women on the covers and I don't think it's a coincidence anymore

I binged the last 250 pages in one night... for that . Kinda preachy about how right-wing politics are Not Good in a way that's not really productive; spelling it out took away from what could have been characterization that spoke for itself. And I kinda don't like that everything fell in each character's lap? I know it's fiction and there had to be a story somehow but lol. I breezed through it after a weird slump though so that has to count for something. This pales in comparison to A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini if it was trying to do the same thing, but also I haven't read that one in 10 years so don't quote me.

Page 200 is driving the perfectionist in me nuts with a note they forgot to remove

Anyway this was fine. I really, really enjoyed a few and I skipped a couple but I'm not naming names

Skimmed through the rest after the intro to see if it was worth fighting through all the small text for. Pretty disjointed for what it was trying to do, possibly bc it's short. "Epic" is misleading. A shame bc I really, really like the art
