Max was so cute and loveable but everything tied together so neatly and didn't feel fleshed out enough

I just didn't find this very riveting or like there was any real plot

Gorgeous.

I loved the how the author weaved together traditional fairytale like Cinderella into a love language between two generations. The mom being from vietname and telling her story through the myths and books read by her son make it so impactful.

Loved seeing a sister dynamic handling anorexia and disordered eating. I thought that the dynamic between the two was very realistic and sometimes painful, but truly done so well

I had a lot of issues with this book. While the interesting title pulled me in, the author was just not engaging to me. I just found her very unlikable. Additionally, I didn't find any real plot or structure through the interview type chapters and the sudden switch to shorthand prose at the end felt non-cohesive.

What a strange little book that felt so intimate. I'm glad they didn't make it romantic with the 19 year age difference. Love that it explored these two queers at different stages battling their own issues in such a magical way

The characters are so emotionally complex and captivating, but I had trouble understanding what was happening because of all the dark shadows and the way it was inked
