Marcovaldo by Italo Calvino

Marcovaldo is disillusioned with city life. Marcovaldo is also very Amelia Bedelia coded. This was funny and lighthearted but some stories struggled to hold my attention.

Woooow. This was a wild ride. I was not expecting this much story from this book. The beginning started off strong, but it waned a bit and I had to kind of slog through until it picked up again. But after that it was all gas, no brakes. 

Wow.

Max and Shera made for one very interesting night. 

Chess Story by Stefan Zweig

My rating is mostly due the fact that I was so distracted while reading. But as always, I enjoyed Zweig’s writing. 

Deep End by Ali Hazelwood
Did not finish book. Stopped at 50%.

This was another miss for me with Ali Hazelwood. Got halfway through and stopped expecting it to get better.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 42%.

I tried to give this a fair shake but it didn’t land with me. I was expecting more.

Very interesting look at how systems that enable abuse are reinforced by our behavior and by society generally. Also, I really enjoyed the portrayal of an emotionally incestuous, codependent parent child relationship.

This book was unlike anything I’ve read (or rather listened to). I struggled at times to follow the flow of the story but the larger story was very compelling. 

The audiobook was very well done. It took some getting used to at first (the music) but I settled into the audiobook. 

A Love Song for Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams

I wasn’t as blown away by this one as I’d hoped but the epilogue won me over.
