This book exceeded all my expectations, I couldn't put it down. It was maybe a little too soon to read this, lowkey hurt because of all the parallels to covid. I will forever think of this story when I see millennial pink. I wish Ling Ma had more books :( Her writing in phenomenal. This review is choppy and I'm tired but pls pls read this book

The sexism in this book is absolutely disgusting and depressing. I finished this book because I wanted to understand and see its impact in other works of science fiction but now that I have come to the end I’m realizing this was a huge waste of my time and energy. I absolutely would not recommend this book to anyone. Just watch a youtube video about the essence of the story and save yourself the agony.

This book is heart wrenching. I am really looking forward to talking to my mother about it and hopefully discussing her own experiences giving up so much in her life to raise me and my siblings.

Sometimes this book was so hyper-focused on its attempts to be gross that it felt like a pissing contest the author had with herself to for which chapter could be the most excessive in cruelty. That aside, it was still a really compelling story and definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. If you're vegetarian and want to feel good about it I recommend this book lol. The ending was disappointing :I

What I Talk about When I Talk about Running by Haruki Murakami

Loved how Murakami was able to take a book about running and make it so much more by adding commentary on growing old, learning to accept the things you don’t love about yourself, and finding the things that give you fulfillment, so you can get through each day. Personally wish I had read this physically instead of with an audio book.
