i really loved parts of it and the generational aspects of this book but the end of the second part was disappointing and unsatisfactory.

i expected natsuko to find the right path for her in a more furfilling way than just ending up having a baby with aizawa

i can appreciate the writing and the imperialism commentary, however, the story felt incredibly dull. whilst  this book might have been an eye opener for people and an important matter to be discussed, the sheer ignorance and racism left me with a bitter aftertaste all throughout the book. conrad's prose is quite beautiful, but i would much rather read about this topic from anyone but a white, privileged man.
