existentialhell's Reviews (77)
I genuinely have no idea what to make of this book, and as such I've refrained from giving it a starred rating. This won't be an in-depth review nor is it likely to be useful to anyone save myself - I guess I just need to document how...disoriented? mercurial? my feelings toward the story are.
I'm not sure whether I loved or hated the characterization of the biologist and the rest of our expedition members, not sure whether I found her marriage believably human or a tired trope, not sure whether her husband's presence in the plot to begin with was enriching or exhausting. I've no idea whether the overarching themes resonate deeply in their gorgeous honesty or make me want to bleach my brain for their contrived self-awareness. I've never been this unsure of a book in my life.
I think I really enjoyed it? I think? Look, all I know for sure is that I'll be reading the second book ASAP. Pick up a copy and see if you can decide for yourself.
