I enjoyed this book, and the premise and concept seemed promising.
However the execution is not up to par. Too many flat characters and storyline/plot is derivative and so predictable. Not a single thing in this story felt brand new or amazing but I had fun regardless and will read the sequel.

Update: so just learned the author literally ripped off other popular fantasy series (Red Queen, ASOIAF, divergent etc) dropping my rating to 3 stars - explains why the story was so predictable

Wow, this volume was amazing, the conflict between the straw hats, the city of water setting everything was impeccable.

I did not enjoy this book at all. It was a painful, hard read honestly that took me several weeks to read. But honestly, the pain and suffering Native Americans went through AND still go through is nothing compared to reading about it.

The genocide and crimes committed by the white settlers towards the native Indians from 1800 and even till today is documented in this amazing well researched book and it was brutal, inhumane and honestly disgusting. The worst part of it all is that our society has sugarcoated and diluted what actually happened and I highly recommend this book to everyone who lives in the USA especially if you’re white American to really give you a true perspective of what this nation is built on.

It is important for everyone to not forgot the history and especially NOT sugarcoat it because as it says in the book “everyone and everything in the world is affected, for the most part negatively, by the US dominance and intervention often violently through direct military means or through proxies.”

On a final note, I am giving this book 5 stars because of how important this book is to our society. Give the natives their land back. Abolish prisons. And teach the real history in schools. Those are just a few first steps that can help redeem America in the eyes of the world.

This series is like fast food, very enjoyable, tasty but not much substance.

Great writing and beautiful first half. Sadly the last one third of the story felt rushed and ending was unsatisfactory.
However I really enjoyed this book!
