The way I almost dnf’ed this book last year. Just wasn’t in the right headspace to read it. But boy I’m glad I got back to it this year. Loved.

Such poignant commentary on the failings of the system along with other -isms being interwoven in with the story. I know the ending is
controversial. I think it definitely leaves you thinking and I see what Tiffany D. Jackson was trying to do, but it felt a bit too jarring and a lot of things simply don’t line up. I understand the use of the grey ending which encapsulates the book, but, the narrative voice feels soooo out of place, that it doesn’t toe the line of on a reveal of Mary’s delusion and instead just feels separated from the book, rather than a seamless plot twist. But this is a first book, so I get it.
what a brave debut.

Yt people be messy, lmaooo.

But fr tho, there were some quotes that really had me thinking about who we are as people and breaking generational trauma patterns that can seep into our lives as we grow up.

Don’t really know what I just read. I know what Rooney was going for…I just don’t want to be apart of it.

Despite not identifying with her clients, this actually served as a catalyst for me to do things that I was putting off career/networking wise. There are some opinions I don’t fully agree with and her perspective on some things are a bit narrowed. I def did skip the fertility part tho. A quick and easy read.
