Who doesn't love a Morally Grey Love interest? Or a little Political intrigue?
If you love:
-Strangers to lovers
-"The chosen one" trope
-Sapphic Romance
-Slow burn
-Fantasy
-Low Spice Levels
-Morally Grey Love interests
-"Touch her and ☠️"
-Banter
I absolutely LOVE this book if for no other reason Aife, our brooding, morally grey, cocky, sexy Elf Assassin. I was instantly drawn to her and it was amazing to see what her motivations were.
Through the Embers follows Aife, and Titiana. Aife is an assassin that is only alive because an Emperors adviser thought she'd be useful. She was forced to train, to prove her loyalty to a man who slaughtered her family, and become his weapon. Titiana is a missing Princess hiding in plain sight.
They come together in the most unexpected way and end up joining forces to right the wrongs of their pasts. Trouble is how will they escape their various prisons without one or both of them ending up dead?
Now all I want is someone to call me their "little Minx" Cause OMG it brought the swoons out.

I’ll be honest, I read the first line and was completely thrown.
The first book ended with the Prophecy which read ‘A child of three halves, combined of the immortal and hexed, will bring the unity or the destruction of the ancient clans.’
The second opened with talk of pregnancy. No warning, no inbetween, just shouting about how Casey would be the mother of a child of prophecy.
I did end up enjoying it and I was so surprised by who the betrayer was. No one is who they seem to be so you're in for a ride.

I was NOT expecting to open this book and find a world to fall in love with but I did.
Everything about this book is so well thought out and the world building is super detailed, but in a way that makes since. We learn about the world as our FMC does, who is a touch sheltered thanks in equal parts her home's frozen small town vibes and the secrets being kept by every adult figure in her life.
Eira is a FMC you can get behind, (>.> Not like that Ambrose! )
She is flawed, independent, passionate, and maybe a touch rebellious, and she is perfect because of it.
My favorite thing about this book isn't even the spice (though that too is fantastic and explored some very new kinks in my case. Who knew it might be fun to be chased trough the woods and then thoroughly ravished? ) it's the diversity in the characters. We have so much representation in this book! We've got multiple LGBTQIA+ characters, BiPOC characters, characters who have varying mental health issues that they are working through, and characters of varying body types.
Speaking of different body types. My favorite scene in this book is when Eira is in her "Grooming" Class and all the women are literally being stripped bare and as they faced their insecurities together and lifted each other up, complementing each other on the things they felt the others were insecure about. "Together, we stood, bearing out perfect imperfections to everyone in the room." -
I don't want to spoil the book and if i keep gushing I will so I'll leave on one last thought...
This book is rich in lore, sprinkled in spice, and rolled up in a why choose blanket between two men who are vastly different in personality but equally sexy.
The next book can't come soon enough!
Thank you E.A. Forteanux for the Arc. <3
